Kino Announces First Kitchen Residency and reveals three events

Food & Drink

Following their recent sold-out supper club event, Kino is delighted to reveal that the award-winning Levantine-inspired MorMor will be taking up a kitchen residency at the new restaurant from September 14th until the new year.

MorMor will be the first of longer-term kitchen residencies and guest chefs to take over the impressive kitchen space at Opera North’s brand new city centre restaurant. Kino opened to the public earlier this month showcasing an informal charcuterie and cheese offering.

MorMor’s food offer is inspired by a love of the varied flavours and cultures found in the Levant – a crossroads of western Asia, the eastern Mediterranean and North-East Africa. Their unique contemporary dishes were teased at their supper club last weekend with dishes such as Soft Shell Crab, Chicken Shish Tawook with Grilled Lombardi and Grilled Aubergine with Date & Dukkah Crumb and Tahini Yoghurt.

MorMor take over the Kino Kitchen from 14th September

Kino has also just announced its first three tasting events with a changing selection of specialist partners, which will become regular features for the restaurant. Each evening will include three cheese boards with selections by Chapel Allerton’s award-winning George & Joseph, each one paired with a specially selected drink. First up is a cheese and wine night with Leeds’ independent wine merchant Latitude, taking place on the 10th August. The focus turns to craft ale on 17 August, with Kino partnering up with Kirkstall Brewery; and Masons and Fever-Tree offer a cheese and gin night on 7 September. Experts from the partners will be on hand at all three events to give tasting notes and some background on the food and drinks.

Since opening in early July, Kino has offered an informal showcase of some of the region’s finest charcuterie and cheeses, alongside an extensive wine, craft beer and cocktail selection. Kino has proved to be a fresh addition to New Briggate, one of the city’s most exciting, developing areas.

Richard Mantle, General Director, Opera North comments:

“Following a hugely successful pop-up event, we are thrilled to welcome MorMor for the first kitchen residency at Kino from September, extending the restaurant’s dining offer with their vibrant and contemporary Levantine-inspired dishes. We are also looking forward to welcoming visitors to the restaurant over the coming months to enjoy special tasting events with our fantastic local partners at George & Joseph, pairing delicious cheese and charcuterie with the best wine, beer or gin.”

Hugo Monypenny, MorMor comments:

“The pop-up last month was incredible. After being in fields and working events, it was great to be back in a full sized kitchen once again, where the food can fully shine. We can’t wait to take over the kitchen again from 14th September. Thank you so much to the Kino team for putting so much trust in us. What can you expect? From the rack of lamb to whole mackerel with daily specials, we suggest you keep your eyes on social media for our menu.”

Kino is open on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and all day on Fridays and Saturdays.
