Summer is flying by, and it’s already time for the new (and last) resident kitchens to take over Chow Down this season. Get to know Asado, Argentinan street food vendor bringing BBQ to the Temple Arches for the next 6 weeks.
What does ‘asado’ kitchen mean?
Asado is an open fire method of cooking loved in Argentina, the pitmaster is an asador. Asado Kitchen is loosely based on this love of BBQing meats. Especially Carne Asada, our fave dish of BBQ flank steak with an incredible tomatillo chimichurri.
Where does your inspiration come from?
Honestly, I started this when I was newly pregnant and was desperately craving BBQ steak. So I came up with this based on an Argentinan grill to assuage my cravings!
What’s your favourite thing on the menu?
Carne asada with tomatillo chimichurri. Or BBQ watermelon, black olive & feta salad. Or any one of our other dishes tbh. I love this menu!
Do you cater for veggies/vegans?
Absolutely. I think vegan BBQ is really exciting, we’ve got king oyster mushrooms as our steak stand ins and they do such a good job. Meaty and juicy and delicious!
We know that you’ve also done Middle Feast and Torito Taco, which we loved. Is there a world cuisine you haven’t mastered? What’s next?
Well, thank you. Food and personal taste are always evolving and there’s always so much to learn and try. That’s why I love my job. Baby’s next, then who knows.
How does it feel to be back at Chow Down?
I love Chow Down, the venue and staff are incredible! I haven’t seen any other events go to so much trouble to bring something new and exciting to their customers. Leeds is lucky!
